Discuss misconceptions or concerns you had about educational research before taking this class. Explain how these have changed or remained the same.
Before the class, I assumed most research was looking up articles, think research paper. I did not realize that education research can include that but can also be an experiment like you would think of in Science. I have never liked research in the basic sense but being able to set up and do experiments and trials is fun. I did not think I would want to be in a position like this in a future role but I do like being able to prove something works or doesn't for change. I would not run from a position that required this any longer.
As it relates to educational research and the topics in this course, what do you know now that you didn't know before?
Knowing how to find and use scholarly articles I believe is the biggest thing I have learned. The ways to find them and site them correctly will greatly benefit me in my future. It takes my opinions and ideas and transforms them into facts and solutions. Secondly, APA style! I have used only MLA in my past. Being a science teacher and wanting to be an admin and/or instructional coach I need to be able to use APA.
Discuss how this has affected your capacity to serve as an instructional technology coach or school-level technology leader.
As a leader or coach, you need to be able to present solutions to problems or enhancements with data that supports the change. Being able to find research that is trustworthy takes out any resistance or mistrust. You will be able to have buy-in from your team or who you are coaching. How Dr. Lee broke down the class and especially the Capstone was extremely helpful. As a leader, I would try to do this for my team. It allows them to not be stressed and it also would allow me to give ample feedback so the final product was the best it could be.
